IHSS Consumer Training

IHSS Consumer Workshops and Discussion Groups

We offer workshops and discussion groups throughout the year. There is no charge to attend or participate. Our trainings range from two hour informational presentations at local community centers to one hour discussion groups that meet by phone for six consecutive weeks. Opportunities to Connect without Travel

Over the phone training and discussion groups eliminate the need to travel and are offered in collaboration with Senior Center Without Walls, a program of Episcopal Homes. Discussion topics vary and include: personal attendant management; emergency preparedness and effective advocacy. These groups offer a great way to connect with other IHSS consumers and talk about what works, share frustrations, etc.

This month our we are spotlighting an empowering and informative set of videos which give a snapshot of the life and advocacy of longtime disability rights activist, and current Public Authority Advisory Board member, Mark Beckwith. Daniel Mcgrath, Mark's provider of 8 years filmed and produced this video for his senior thesis. Thanks to Mark and Daniel for allowing us to spotlight it here. It is a powerful example of collaboration between consumers and providers in the IHSS community.
