Finding a Home Care Worker/Personal Assistant

I'm an IHSS consumer; how do I find a home care worker?

If you want the names and phone numbers of some workers who have had their references checked and who match your needs, call the NEW Registry number at 510-577-1980

If you need an example job agreement or other assistance in hiring an IHSS homecare worker, the Registry may be able to provide additional resources; just call and ask!

Consumers can also request interpretation assistance.

Pay and Benefits

The pay for IHSS workers is $11.50 per hour (Note: This rate may change to $11.35 as of July 1, 2009).  A medical, dental and vision plan is offered to newly employed workers receiving paychecks for working at least 80 IHSS hours per month.

The consumer is responsible for calling, interviewing, selecting and hiring the worker. Although the Registry agency has checked the worker’s references, you are strongly encouraged to ask for and call references yourself and select someone with whom you are comfortable.
